The American Heart Association’s Hard Hats with Heart campaign has allowed for a focused attention on cardiovascular health and overall wellness that many in construction take for granted until it’s too late. Hard Hats with Heart’s goal, through education and training, is to provide another family member within the industry a second chance. “We lost them too soon.” These are words that have been repeated time and again after the sudden loss of one of our own. Today, nearly half of our industry lives with a form of heart disease, putting many of us at risk for premature death. But with the American Heart Association, we can take control of our health by breaking down barriers, unifying our industry and engaging our families. Together, we can create safe working environments where we adopt healthy lifestyles to prevent heart disease, where AEDs are on every job site and where our entire workforce is trained in CPR and has the courage to act. Together, we can make sure our colleagues, families and the Upstate communities are able to be around for life's precious moments. Because it’s not just about the resources we give, the dollars we raise or the fun we have. It’s about the lives we can save together.
