Hi everyone, first I want to thank Angela Gardner for inviting me to post in the WTC Forum! My name is Heather Howard and I am the Leadership Team Coordinator at The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). We recently had Women Talk Construction on our new podcast The Builders' Table (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2049066) and it will be available next Monday just in time for Construction Inclusion Week. Christi and Angela are truly shining a light on the need for more women to join the construction industry and all the opportunities this holds for women. NCCER recently created a LinkedIn Group: NCCER Supporting Women in Crafts, and we would love for…

Hello! I wanted to introduce myself here at forum. I've been lurking for a long time but never had a chance to introduce myself and my business. My name is Anastasia, and I'm an Interior Designer. I own Ana's Design (LLC), that gives consultations, full design service and e-design. As a member of American Society of Interior designers, I'm always eager to learn more and to attend more CEUs. My main focus is on function and comfort of the space, and not only beauty. I always use analogy with shoes: beautiful and uncomfortable shoes are staying at wardrobe, but comfortable ones are used daily. My job is to create the space that fits as a glove to client's needs.…

Hi! I found the podcast while prepping for an inclusion/equity presentation for ABC and NAWIC during WIC week. I’m so glad I did! So many great and inspiring conversations from women (and men) doing the damn thing in Construction. about me: 16 years ago I pivoted from teaching art in elementary school to working in construction. I’m now president of Etolin Strait, an Alaska Native Company and 8(a) federal contractor. Disclaimer! I am not Alaskan. I run the operations. I also chair ABC-VA’s Management Ed committee and recently published a book celebrating admin (with a focus on women in construction) called Buried in Business. I still love to teach, but teaching …

I just discovered the podcast and this forum, and am very happy to be here! Rewinding a couple of months....I also just found out that NAWIC exists and that I have advocates here for becoming a WBE. I really look forward to the inspiration that comes with hearing from other women about your journey in this industry (I believe Christi and Angela referred to it as "male populated" rather than male dominated - love that!). My background is in mental health/substance abuse counseling and I only transitioned into the world of construction about 2 1/2 years ago. So much to learn and so many trails to blaze!

I am so happy to have found this group. I am all about woman power, and my professional passion is community programming and grant writing around workforce development. For the last year, in addition to our family owned residential construction business, I've been writing grants for a program that provides services to mothers earning their academic degrees or certificates. It is amazing how successful women can be with some legitimate support. Thank you for having me.
