Step, Walk, or Run…What will you do?

Whatever speed one chooses to enter the new year is a personal choice.

A new year with infinite possibilities is almost as exciting as the beauty of the Holiday Season we have barely moved past, at least that is how I see it.

Most of my life I chose to make resolutions, to set goals, and to focus on how to be better and achieve more.  That is what goal-oriented, Type A personalities do, right? We prioritize, we plan, and we push, it may annoy those around us, but it is our nature.

Most years I have chosen to run or leap into a new year, but this year I decided to walk. If you wonder why the change, it’s simple, age and wisdom, I suppose.

Last year, as I ran into the new year, I was amazed at how quickly everything came to a stop, all my plans, everything that I had mapped out, was not to be. I will not bore anyone with the details, but the responsibilities of adulthood chose my altered path for me.  Now, this had probably happened before in my life, but as I reflect upon 2022, I understand that no matter how fast a person runs, our lives do have their own timing, and our journeys are filled with twists and turns that we absolutely cannot control.

This year, instead of setting goals and making resolutions for 2023, I decided to simply recite a motto that I feel will get me through the path ahead, that from my view, looks like a mountain. “I can and I will, but not at the expense of my health or my family.”

It is funny what we begin to cherish as we age, we look closer at the important of our health, cherish the moments spent with family or friends, and these two things take precedent over careers, money, and achievements. Don’t get me wrong, those are important elements of our journeys, but when we break it down, most of us come to the same conclusion in time, health and family are the crown jewels of life.

Family spending time at the beach

Spending time with our family should be at the top of our priority list.

  2. It was so energizing.  We are so thankful for all the lovely men and women who made the event such a success.  They are heros 🙂.

None of it could be possible without the amazing women like you who always show up to support each other. 🥰

  4. Construction Executive 2023 Construction Economic Forecast is focused on one thing: the labor market. Here's what the post-pandemic, infrastructure spending, legal immigration, and retiring Baby Boomers mean for the industry's skilled workforce-and lack thereof.

It's so important to reach every female in our country to see if they are open to exploring a construction, manufacturing, & industrial option for a career or a role. Christi Powell & Angela Gardner are extremely committed to helping educate the women in our country on all of their options!!

The benefits of working in construction, infrastructure, manufacturing & industrial spaces are

👉 1) Thousands of job paths

👷‍♀️ 2) Pay is great and the closest to their male counterparts

🚧 3) Not every position is an indoor or outdoor job

🏗 4) Creative minds are embraced

🏛 5) These roles are essential

In 2009 the shortage of essential work was 30,000 jobs. Now we are closer to 650,000 job needs in 2022. Something to think about!?

  9. Progress was made across the nation as voters in last week’s election sent women to Washington, their governors’ mansions, and other statewide offices. Here in South Carolina, we elected a female as Superintendent of Education (and Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette comes as part of the gubernatorial package), and 68% of the women who ran in 2022 won their elections. The problem? Not enough women were running. Many of us didn’t have a choice, let alone the option to choose a woman for the job.

    59%

SC WIL is looking to reverse this regression by identifying seats where women have the best chances to win, then recruiting and training female candidates to run in 2023 and 2024. If you’d like to be part of tripling the number of women running in 2024 by running yourself or helping another woman run, let us [scwomenlead.us20.list-manage.com] know [scwomenlead.us20.list-manage.com]!

  10. Some benefits our customers expect when partnering with a WBE like 84 Lumber:

    💰 Tax Incentives

Working with a WBE can provide your company with tax benefits. The Federal government provides tax incentives to companies who conduct business with minority and women-owned businesses. When the supplier is a WBE, tax liabilities are reduced for Federal or State funded projects. 84 Lumber can provide you with all the documentation you need to support your claim in the areas where we are certified.

    💸 Increased Profits

Did you know that numerous research studies have confirmed that companies that embrace diversity are more profitable on average than those that don’t? According to Forbes, companies with diverse teams are 33% more likely to have a better-than-average-profit. McKinsey and HBR also report similar benefits. Why? Creativity flourishes when diverse points of view are considered.

    👩‍🔬 Wide Net Enhances Competition

When working with a WBE, you gain access to new supplier channels. A broad pool of suppliers plus access to the supplier’s own diverse networks means you can select the best solution for your company.

    Fast, Responsive Service

We’re also a Women Business Enterprise certified by WBENC (the gold standard in National certification). As a privately held business, we’re able to be very flexible and responsive to customer needs. Our customers also benefit from direct access to experienced sales people and product knowledge.

    💹 Marketability

Your company becomes more attractive to corporations seeking second tier suppliers who work with women-owned businesses. When you partner with 84 Lumber for your building materials, let your customers know that you work with a WBE. It may enhance your own competitive advantage.
